IRO VAN DEN STEEN
I am a product designer from Antwerp, currently studying in Genk. I create functional, refined objects driven by simplicity, honesty, and balance, aiming to make everyday life better.
My work is inspired by the world around me, translating trends into designs that fit modern living. I often work with wood and aluminum, combining natural warmth with industrial precision, always with a strong focus on sustainability.
Alongside design, I am a high-level hockey player, which has shaped my teamwork, discipline, and adaptability.
I am always open to collaborations and new opportunities to create meaningful, well-crafted designs.
Philosophy
I start from raw materials, drawn to their natural beauty, strength, and honesty. I enjoy working with materials like wood and aluminum, exploring their contrast and potential.
In my design process, I push materials beyond their expected limits, questioning how they are perceived and used. I aim to create objects that feel both familiar and surprising.
I combine traditional craftsmanship with modern techniques, finding a balance between both to shape thoughtful, contemporary designs.
